New Adventures.
Hello all dearest family and friends.
Hold on to your boots, do I have a story to tell you.
This blog is a new addition to my life that was completely unexpected.
You will soon find out why.
I am amazed at our Lord Jesus and his since of humor. It is not something be laughed at. Or maybe it is, as I am sitting on a porch in Hawaii writing a blog, something I said I would never do. oh lord, your hilarious.
Here is the story.
Last year I was so unforgettably blessed to have an open door to go to Bethel school of supernatural ministry! that story of how I got there is another tale for another day. one of It was one of the best years of my life and I grew so much in faith and learning about leadership from Pastors I saw exude the love of Jesus. It was life changing! When I was there I decided I did not want to write a blog or support letters while at Bethel, I wanted to see if God would provide for me just on prayer, He proved his power and I made it through the entire year with money supernaturally coming in. over 8,000 dollars!!! It was one of the biggest faith building times of my life so far.
I returned to my hometown. Charlotte NC changed. I had seen first hand the miracles and the provision from fully living by faith and was not turning around for anything. I was so thankful that Jesus had taught me such huge lessons and let me see what he was doing in that school and around the world.
I returned home and prayed "Lord I was love a nanny job and a coffee shop job, I also do not know what you have next for me( I had many amazing opportunities) so show me which door to open. That week I had two jobs, a nanny job and coffee shop and was starting to settle into my Charlotte community and get back into the normal groove of a 22 year old city kid. I was excited for the next stage in my life, if that was going back to Bethel with all my phenomenal friends there or going back to college and continue my education for media and the arts. Little did I know....
Two weeks ago, I had worked a long day and was thankful for all the hours and the Chance to save some money. I went to bed that night and had a dream, in the dream I was standing on a beach in Hawaii with a group of people. I could not clearly see them but we were about to jump in the water. I woke up from that dream not really thinking too much about it and going on with my day.
How great and mighty are the works of the Lord, and how much do we often forget he can do anything he wants to.
My good friend Kat Hobin, you should get to know her (all I can say is that she is going to change the world) called me up that day ( we went to Bethel together and we had talked of our hearts for ywam at bethel school), she said "Rachel come to Hawaii do a ywam dts this summer!"
For those of you that know me, you might know I have tried to go to a ywam school for a couple years but every time the lord shut the door. So to be truly honest, I had shut the dream out of my heart of going to one. So I said "well I would love to, you know I love ywam and I have a huge heart for what they are doing there, but I have two jobs, no money and many friends that are counting on me to be here this summer, so maybe...... but most likely not. No money and summer commitments will keep me where I am for the time being, but if it changes ill let you know!"
Hung up the phone and said with a half believing heart. "Lord I believe you can send me to ywam if you want to, so if you want me to go, how about you get me a free plane ticket to Hawaii ok...ok." I went on with my full day not really remembering that I am talking to the GOD of the universe and He can do all things no matter how big.
That night I got a phone call. Our dear missionary friend Miss Evelyn, A women that has traveled the world and worked for years doing great works for the Lord, I greatly admire her heart and life story, called me up....you will never guess what she said, or maybe you will. She had some free miles for a plane ticket and was wondering if I wanted to take them. "whhhatttttttttt?? Really, thats crazy, I only prayed that a couple of hours ago?? what do I do now??"
We did some research and found out that she only had enough for half a ticket for Hawaii. "ahh lord see, I only have half a ticket, guess I cant go... Oh well, guess I will have to stay here, thats good Lord because, I don't know if you knew but I have some commitments to keep."
The next morning I was opening up the coffee shop I was working at and Miss Evelyn called me up at six in the morning, "Rachel, I have some news for you, I did some research of my own last night and I found out I had opened up a Delta sky miles account in 1990 and I have had miles building in there since then, those miles added with the other miles I can get you means that you have enough miles to get to Hawaii!"
My next thoughts went a little something like this...
"wait. what? That’s so exciting, what if I really did just take off to Hawaii to do a DTS!
hold up Lord, do you really want me to leave home when I just returned? do you want me to drop everything I have going (two awesome jobs, family, friends, weddings, college...) and just go to a place I know nothing about, and and and... the ywam school there has already started, so I would be late!! I don't even want to do ywam anymore, you shut the door before, are you really opening it this time? I also have NO money and no back-up plan. What are you saying here?"
I called my world changer friend Kat Hobin, and told her what was going on, she then delivered even bigger news and said I had to have a 1,000 down payment for the school by the time I arrived in Hawaii and that A leader wanted to talk to me. A man named Andrew york, who I already have great respect for told me that I should come to the school, I told him "I would love to but I don't even have enough money to fill out an application which is 75 dollars. He said "get here and then we can worry about the rest!" I was amazed at all that was happening and still could not grasp what the right choice was, even though all this had happened.
"well God, see...1,000 dollars, that's crazy, where I'm I going to get that much money and way more when I only have 20 bucks in my pocket right now. I guess that is my answer huh."
But I prayed again, "God I believe you can get me 1,000 dollars if you want to, I believe you can do all things, so if you want me there, provide the money."
The next day I had 900 dollars given to me from checks, friends and missionary brothers and sisters in the Lord. I was still in a state of worry and doubt about what to do, friends were counting on me, I wanted to work hard and save money, things back home were calling my name, I decided in my heart that I would step through any open door that I knew the Lord was opening.
The next day I decided to tell my Nanny job about the option of going to Kona, Hawaii.
Instead of being upset that I would leave her hanging and might jump on a plane the next day, she wrote me a check for 1,000 dollars.
Thats right. 1,000 dollars.
In two days I had received almost 2,000 dollars and a free 1,000 round trip plane ticket to Kona Hawaii on top of that I had had been accepted to the YWAM school called Awaken with no application or interview or anything, just told to come.
Just go. No back up plan. Just God telling me through provision to go and do something unplanned and that might, no…did, look a little crazy.
I talk big, but can I walk big?
So like a good experienced trained mighty christian warrior of the Lord, I worried and stressed about what to do but with the counsel of people who are wise beyond there years I realized that The Lord comes how he wants, that If I am going to live a life totally committed to his love and a life that moves with the spirit of the Lord, that if I really do trust him and what he says with my past, present and future that I would know his plan is better then my plan and that he wants to fulfill all our dreams and more. That our lives, when fully given to him are filled with stories that might seem unplanned or crazy to the normal person but life in the spirit is a never-ending adventure.
God fully provided everything I needed to get here to the Ywam base in kona Hawaii. I needed to just "go" like he said, and know that God takes care of all our needs. Like little children who know their parents will provide for them,we also know he is going to take care of us.
So I chose. I packed my bags, and headed on the 18 hour trip to an unknown land, better known as paradise called Hawaii. Its been on my dream list to swim in an ocean as blue as the sky, and now I was going to do that. God was giving me two dreams in one, paradise and YWAM. Something I could have never planned was happening only by the fast moving spirit of God and not only was he sending me on my next adventure, but he was fulfilling me dreams in the process, He has a funny way of doing that doesn’t he (see, God is hilarious)
I arrived in Kona sleepy and shocked at what had just taken place in my life and I am pretty sure I shook a million hands that night meeting all the new people and leaders here on the base.
The next morning we had a man named Bob Hartley come and speak at our class, I was hardly paying attention because I had thoughts like this going through my head.
"God, I am so excited about all this, this is so crazy, I cant wait for all the things your going to... but uhh are you sure about all this, I mean I have no money, I just left everything good I had going( for the second time in a row), traveled half way around the world and I really need to know if I am hearing your voice right now.
just please give me some conformation about all this...
Then I snap back into the words of Bob Hartley and he is giving words to people.
Then he says this "and I have a word for a girl named Rachel from North Carolina..."
I was so shocked I hardly even heard what came next. God had just called me out of the crowd! I was so shocked I just sat there not knowing what to do.
No one knew me on the base yet, there was no way he could have known my name or that I had just arrived there. whoa God, you just gave me major confirmation. In all this fast moving couple of days, when I didn’t know God knew, his plans are greater then our plans, his ideas are more creative then our ideas and his dreams for our lives are the ones we truly desire most.
So here I am, a ywam student in the Summer DTS called Awaken with people from around the world learning and seeing the beauty of the Lord everyday. It is already week three here on the base and I will soon give another update on life in Hawaii but for now, I just wanted you to know what happened and How awesome the Lord.
I am so thankful you wanted to hear, and I hope the Lord brings even greater blessings into your life!! There is so much more to this story, people and places that I did not mention, Divine connections that opened up doors, friends that blessed me beyond what I can repay them, prayers and answers I did not write down, but then you would be sitting there for two days, and you have a lot to do.
So, more to come soon, for now I wanted you to know where I am and the great things the Lord is doing in my life and that he can do it in yours too. Life with God is unimaginably creative.
